Whenever scientists are developing a new technology, like genetic engineering, people are quick to say, “Well, who are we to play god?”

Well, what about us atheists? Hell, give me those test tubes, I’ll make your monster.

Measuring geneaology

I like how people say “Fuck the metric system, this is America!”
They do realize that the English system of measurement came from… England, right? The inch is a thumb, the foot is a foot.

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is used to treat cancer because cancer cells are more susceptible to radiation. This is because radiation damages DNA and cancer cells are not as capable of repairing DNA as well as normal, healthy cells. It is still a weakening procedure and can possibly lead to side effects like leukemia, but there are drugs to take that lessen the blow of the treatment.

Earthquake prediction

As of this post, scientists cannot predict earthquakes like they can the weather. Instead, they are limited to evaluating likelihoods of earthquakes in certain areas (ie, an area like Los Angeles is more likely to have an earthquake as it lies on the San Andreas fault, as opposed to Utah which does not rest on any tectonic lines).
