Floating adrift

If you find yourself floating lost at sea and a rescue helicopter passes by, use your arms to splash around as opposed to waving your arms and shouting for help- splashes are much more visible to a pilot in the air.

Precautions for closing a bank account

If you decide to close your bank account be sure that you have no pending debit/credit transactions to your account. If you close your account and withdraw all your money and the transactions go through afterwards, you'll end up having to pay an overdrawn account fee.

Jewelry Certificate

When buying jewelry, particularly those with stones or specific metals, in a foreign country or a non-known store, be sure to ask for a certificate of authenticity with the purchase. If they cannot or will not provide the certificate, don't buy the jewelry.

Certification prevents scamming.

Commuting Safeguard

When using a pass that allows for commuting in a crowded city (ie, a bus pass in Chicago) that requires being pulled from the pocket often, do not store it in a wallet. Otherwise, repeatedly pulling your wallet out may make you a target for muggers and make you a victim of crime.
